• How her teachers make learning fun:

  By not being afraid of getting their hands dirty, like when Sivani and her classmates drew the letters of the alphabet in shaving cream for a sensory learning experience. “We were learning about the letter F, so we used foam to form the letters. At first I used a stick, but that got really messy, so Ms. Sledge let me use my hands! That was fun because I got a little messy at school.”

• Favorite place to go:

  The Lower School art studio. “I like to paint how I feel. Whatever I’m drawing, I feel it in my body. We listen to music while we paint and that makes me feel happy.”

• When she grows up:

  She wants to be a veterinarian because she loves animals. “I want to help animals who are hurt. I like animals and I want to be a doctor—so I could be an animal doctor. My favorite animal is a bird. I like cardinals and chickadees. I like them because they’re so graceful and they look beautiful when they fly.” 

• Campus connections:

  During recess, Sivani always makes sure that everyone gets a turn and feels like part of the team. “I help my friends at school by including everyone when we play. I love to be outside—I like to run and play Fishy Fishy with my friends!”

• On learning new things:

  “I like Spanish because I can learn a new language and it’s really fun. I even know how to say popcorn in Spanish—palomitas!” In addition to learning Spanish at Ellis, Sivani is learning Telugu, a Dravidian language spoken mainly in southeastern India, at home. “My middle name means golden in Telugu. It’s fun to learn new languages.”

• How she wants to change the world:

  “Well, I can’t change the world all by myself, I need help. I will have to work with my friends to help me.”
